Pinehurst is a relatively small city situated in the southeastern portion of the Lone Star State of Texas. Pinehurst has a population of approximately two thousand three hundred residents, and is located within the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area, meaning that many of the residents of Orange are commuting to their jobs in those two cities. Pinehurst encompasses a total area of just over one and two thirds square miles, although there are no large bodies of water included in that total. As is the case with the rest of the state of Texas, the original inhabitants of the area which is now considered Pinehurst was originally explored and inhabited by Native Americans, who first found their way into the southeastern Texas region well over ten thousand years ago. Europeans discovered the region about five hundred years ago, although settlers did not arrive in large numbers until the middle portion of the nineteenth century. The land which is now Pinehurst was owned by the Spooner Family, which planed and developed a residential suburb in the year nineteen forty eight. Pinehurst grew substantially in the following decade, and was officially incorporated in the year nineteen fifty five.

The primary provider of educational services in Pinehurst is the West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District, which operates all of the public institutions in and around Pinehurst.
