Port Neches Real Estate Information

Port Neches is a medium sized community situated in the southeastern portion of the Lone Star State. Port Neches has a population of approximately thirteen thousand one hundred residents, and is considered a part of the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area. Port Neches is located in Jefferson County, one of the most populous counties in the state of Texas. Port Neches encompasses a total area of approximately nine and one fifth square miles, of which a very small fraction is standing water. This gives Port Neches a population density of roughly one thousand five hundred people per square mile in a predominately suburban environment. Port Neches is found about twenty miles away from the Gulf of Mexico, meaning that water related activities are just a short drive away.

The area which is now considered Port Neches was originally inhabited by Native Americans, specifically those of the Atakapa Tribe. These coastal Indians settled the Gulf Coast literally more than ten thousand years before any European explorers traversed the Atlantic Ocean. Although Spanish conquistadors and French expeditions passed through the region, there were no notable permanent settlements in the Port Neches region until the middle of the nineteenth century. At this point in time, there was a fascinating Dutch influence that is extremely rare in the Gulf area, coupled with a number of fortifications built (and abandoned) during the American Civil War. In the modern day, Port Neches is a relatively upscale community, at least judging from its comparatively high per capita income.

The primary provider of educational opportunities in the city of Port Neches is the Port Neches-Groves Independent School District, although a part of the city is located within the adjacent Nederland Independent School District. There are other institutions as well, including regional private schools, colleges, and universities, especially those in the nearby city of Port Arthur. Recreational points of interest located in and around Port Neches include the Port Neches City Park, Oak Bluff Memorial Park, and the Nederland Swimming Pool. Port Neches real estate and properties are also just a short drive from Tex Ritter Park, the Windmill and the Port Arthur Little Theater.
